ViniCode.com is really the sister site to A Big Slice. I use it when I teach wine classes, and Clare uses it for her pairing suggestions. In truth, the ViniCode™ was created out of selfishness. We got tired of going to wine stores and having no idea what the wine in the bottle tasted like. Granted you may have an idea based on the grape or the region. But there are so many variables that affect the final product that you can never be sure whether or not you are going to like the bottle you are holding in your hand.
The ViniCode™ is a taste profile of the wine of that particular wine, pure and simple. Is the wine sweet? Acidic? Oaky? With the ViniCode™ now you know. It's like taking a test sip. As you can tell I am very proud of this system. (If you would like to see the system in action check out the Wine Shoe in Atlanta by clicking here.)
Anyway, over the next couple of weeks and months we will be ViniCoding™ the wines from BlackStock Vineyard and Winery near Dahlonega, Georgia. The 2008 edition of the Wine Report by Tom Stevenson, an annual summary of the worldwide wine industry, recently rated Blackstock Vineyards and Winery as the Number One “New Up-and-Coming Producer” in a category encompassing nearly 40 states. In addition, the BlackStock ACE Family Reserve is listed as the #1 “Most exciting or unusual find”, an estate-grown blend of Touriga, Mourvedre, and Merlot." Yes, I am also very proud of BlackStock. (for the BlackStock website click here.)
Our goal is to have the wines ViniCoded™ and paired in time for the Georgia Fine Wine Festival June 5 and 6. So if you attend, look for the VIniCode™ at the Georgia Fine Wine Festival.
