Clare and I are getting away to the North Carolina Mountains this weekend. We are trying to practice what we preached in our Newsletter - the Simple Pleasures. I can't wait.
Now personally I am a beach boy. I love the ocean, just being near it, hearing it makes me relax. BUT we have the opportunity to see one of our favorite people in the world, Marianne Lyon. And she has a wonderful place in the mountains, so the mountains it is. (her place pictured... I KNOW!)
Let me describe this weekend. I have been convincing Clare and Marianne to watch True Blood. Are any of you guys fans? Well I love the show, creatively creepy. And very sexy. Anyway, even though they are both professed vampires lovers, they have balked at True Blood (but they also initially balked at Alan Ball's other show Six Feet Under... you get my point.)
Well, I finally convinced them that True Blood was the greatest thing since fermentation. So this weekend will be filled with True Blood, wine and canasta. (yes canasta!)
But we will also be celebrating my belated birthday and Clare said she would make me anything I wanted. We haven't made crepes yet for abigslice.com, so what better time? I think the menu consists of shrimp crepes with a white wine cream sauce. The kicker is that each of us has to bring the perfect pairing wine. We will try them all blind and then vote on the winner. I will tell you what everyone brought and how the tasting played out in a future blog.
But Clare had one stipulation, I had to make the dessert and she wanted my strawberry pavlova. So I want you all to celebrate with us and try this amazing dessert - perfect for the summer!
